Pizza Hut

From SparkPeople’s Editors

Pizza Hut is known for cheesy and topping-laden pizzas. They've stuffed the crusts to the brim with sauce and cheese and offer everything from pasta and calzones to wings. Even with all those temptations, you can still make smart choices and stay on track with these tips.

  • Choose the Thin 'N Crispy or Fit 'N Delicious crusts to save 40 calories and 4 g of fat per slice.

  • Pass on the pastas. Pizza Hut calls their Tuscani pastas "home-style," and they're large enough to feed everyone in your home! Laden with cheese, cream and meats, the pasta portions are large and have more than 500 calories, 20-30 g of fat and more than 1,000 mg of sodium each.

  • Pizza Hut's "Natural" pizzas are made with better quality ingredients, but they are not lower in fat or calories than the conventional line. See the results of our taste test and nutritional comparison.

  • If you want to save a few grams of fat and 80-100 calories per slice, go with the Fit 'n Delicious line. (That line boasts more vegetables and lower-calorie meats like chicken and ham.)

  • If you want something to eat before your meal, choose carefully. Pairing your pizza with salad or fruit at home is ideal, but here are some safer Pizza Hut appetizers to try: 2 Hot and Mild Wings without dipping sauce (120 calories, 7 g fat, 500 mg sodium), 1 Breadstick (140 calories, 6 g fat, 240 mg sodium), or 1 Cheesestick (180 calories, 7 g fat, 370 mg sodium).

  • The best pizza option is a single slice of a 12" (medium) Thin 'N Crispy Pizza. Try one of the following topping combos:

    • Cheese (190 calories, 8 g fat, 540 mg sodium)
    • Pepperoni and Mushroom (190 calories, 7 g fat, 530 mg sodium)
    • Quartered Ham & Pineapple (180 calories, 6 g fat, 530 mg sodium)
    • Veggie Lover's (180 calories, 6 g fat, 520 mg sodium)

  • Other good pizza choices are one slice from a 12" (medium) Fit 'N Delicious, hand tossed, Mia Pizza, or Natural Pizza.

  • Pizza Hut provides nutrition info on its website.

Chef Meg's Zucchini Muffins

These muffins are very filling!

The whole wheat flour makes for a dense muffin, which I like. You only need to eat one! If you want a lighter muffin try using whole wheat pastry flour, which is more finely ground and available in the bulk bins at larger grocery stores.
