Do you have to hit the snooze button over and over before you can finally drag yourself out of bed in the morning? Are you nodding off in math class on a regular basis? If you’re exhausted all the time but you don’t know why, your electronic gadgets may be to blame—the TV in your bedroom, your cell phone and computer. With so many gadgets in your room, you could be suffering the effects of “junk sleep."

What's junk sleep?
Junk sleep is a lot like junk food. Junk food doesn't provide you with any of the healthy nutrients that you need to be healthy and strong. Junk sleep is low quality, non-restful sleep that happens when you’re distracted by all the electronic toys around you. Don't believe it?

A recent study from The Sleep Council of the United Kingdom found that 30 percent of teenagers between the ages 12 to 16 were scraping by on just four to seven hours of sleep each night! That's a far cry from the minimum that doctors recommend for teens—eight to nine hours or more.

Almost all of the teens in the study had phones, stereos or TVs in their bedrooms, and many of them were "plugged-in" to all three. And almost one-fourth of these teens reported falling asleep more than once a week while watching TV, listening to music or using other electronic gadgets.
