8-Step Goal Achievement Plan

.
. Fuel For Improvement Phase (4-7)
As you create a strong body and mind, it almost gives you an unfair advantage over your goals. In the next four steps, you'll be creating fuel for improvement while at the same time using that fuel to spiral you upward to the Success Stage.

4. Look at the Big Picture
Take a step back to see how your goals really matter. Do your goals actually fit with the important things in your life? Do they match your priorities and values? If you're going to build habits and focus on a vision, make sure you're not giving up something more important. Here's a good test: if you set your goal based on the desire to please others, or cater to public opinion, success will be tougher to find and much less satisfying.

5. Involve other People
You're surrounded by people who want to help. Just reach out and ask. The more people you get in your corner, the faster success will come. Think of the most positive, most supportive, the most enthusiastic people in your life. Any one of them could play a part. Tell 3 people right now what you want to accomplish, why it's important to you and most of all, how they can help. A bit of accountability, a pat on the back, a well-placed cheer is all it takes. Our community message boards are full of people who can help.

6. Build on your Success
One and done? No way. A taste of success demands a full meal. Momentum is a powerful thing. When success rolls in, it's the perfect time to add new goals and strengthen your foundation. The kicker is that the more success you have, the easier new goals become. By building more and more habits, by continuing to challenge yourself to grow, you're building an Upward Spiral that will speed you even faster toward your ultimate goals. So if you're seeing results, don't sit on your laurals and relax. Push it! You're about to hit a breakthrough. For every new habit you're successful with, try to find another one that will take you to the next level.

7. Be a Positive Force
You'd be surprised at how your goals can make a difference in your world -- and vice versa. Your actions can affect more people than you'll ever know. Sometimes, just living as an example and pursuing your dream can be an inspiration to others. You're gaining new skills, new habits, new strengths as you work on your goals. Can you think of a way to use those new abilities to have an impact on others? Whatever you might try, the energy you put into it is nothing compared to the motivation you'll get out of it. For example, if you're successfully lowering your blood pressure, maybe you can help a loved one do the same. Is there a better reason to stay energized?
