Opportunities to be a Positive Force are all around you every day. Whether done formally through a program or group, or informally for the people you see every day, you can have a positive effect on your world.

Public Leadership is not a secret skill reserved for corporate boardrooms or political offices. A leader is anyone who sticks by what he or she believes in and lives according to those principles. A leader brings out the best in people. A leader tries to match their Goals with those of others. These are all things you can do today. Whenever you make a decision with family members, settle an argument between friends, or make a stranger’s day, you’re showing Public Leadership. Even if you don’t hold a leadership position in the traditional sense, it can be just as powerful.
How do your Goals positively affect the people around you? Do a Leadership Match to find out. List your goals on one side, and the important people in your life on the other side. Next to each person, try to put into plain words how he or she will benefit from at least one of your goals. Use these matches as extra motivation. More about Public Leadership

Have you ever taught someone a new skill, shared your expertise and wisdom, or explained something to a friend or coworker? If you have, you’ve been a Positive Force as a Mentor. You have a skills “fingerprint”, a unique collection of knowledge and abilities that someone else could benefit from. You are better than most people at something. If you look hard enough, you’ll find it. But most people are also better than you at something. So it’s just as important to find a Mentor of your own or several if you like! Seeking help from a Mentor can go a long way toward staying on track with your program and giving you a boost right when you need it.
What do you know? What are you good at and like to talk about? The best Mentors are the ones who teach from their heart, abilities and interests. By creating a personal “skills fingerprint”, you’ll see where you can help, and where you’d like to help. It will also show you where you could use a little Mentoring yourself. More about Mentoring

Anything you do to improve your community is a Community Service. This can mean everything from caring for the elderly or teaching illiterate adults to picking up trash on your sidewalk or helping a neighbor fix his roof. At the same time, don’t neglect your loved ones. You don’t have to look far to find people that need help; Community Service really does begin at home. Community Service is based on more than donations or writing checks. It’s based in Action. Giving money is not the same thing it doesn’t change you or fuel your Fire. Once you take that action, once you start to affect your community, the full Force of your program will show itself.
Take action today to make someone’s life a little better. Come up with just one nice thing to do for each of the important people in your life. One little thing that can make all the difference. More about Community Service
